History:

Shilpgram was established in 1989 by the Government of India with the primary goal of preserving and promoting rural arts and crafts. The word “Shilpgram” translates to “village of crafts.” The idea behind creating Shilpgram was to provide a platform for rural artisans and craftsmen to showcase their talents and sell their creations directly to the public.

The complex features 26 traditional huts, each representing different Indian states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa. These huts are designed to reflect the architecture, culture, and way of life in rural areas, offering visitors a real-time experience of India’s diverse heritage.
