Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah Biography – Early Life, Career, Records & Legacy

Jasprit Bumrah was born on December 6, 1993, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to a Punjabi Sikh family. His childhood was one of suffering because his father, Jasbir Singh, died when Bumrah was five years old. He grew up with his mother, Daljit Kaur, who was a school principal, in a simple home. Despite his family’s struggles financially, his mother supported him in pursuing his love of cricket.

Bumrah started playing cricket as a young boy in his locality. His natural talent and peculiar bowling action caught the eye of coaches early on. Sanjay Patel, a retired Gujarat cricketer, played a crucial role in the development of his career. Bumrah broke through in the 2013 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where his aggressive pace and unorthodox action stood him out.

Domestic and IPL Career

Bumrah’s homecoming for Gujarat in 2013 was the beginning of his professional career. Yet, it was the Indian Premier League (IPL) that turned him into a household name. Former Mumbai Indians (MI) coach John Wright noticed him in a domestic match and suggested him to the team.

Hired by Mumbai Indians in 2013, Bumrah soon became an integral part under the tutelage of Lasith Malinga. His deadly yorkers and ability to handle high-pressure situations made him one of MI’s biggest match-winners. One of his most memorable performances came in the 2017 IPL Final, where he successfully defended 14 runs against Rising Pune Supergiant, securing the title for Mumbai Indians. Over the years, he has played a major role in MI’s championship victories in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
