Just recently, TikTok‘s official website became accessible to certain Indian users, causing hopes for the possible official return of the Chinese short-video platform.

The platform and many other Chinese apps were banned in June 2020 when India banned 59 apps citing security concerns. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology having conducted its analysis stated that sufficient evidence exists to establish that these apps derogate India’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, defense, and public order.
The government banned a number of apps, including those of Share it, Kwai, UC Browser, UC News, Vigo Video, Baidu Map, Clash of Kings, DU Battery Saver, and TikTok.
But there are rumors that the TikTok website is now active while the app remains banned for the app stores in India. The government officials also confirmed that no such formal decision exists on lifting the ban.
